An International Youth Leader Conference with the theme of “Highway to HIV/AIDS Awareness” took place at the Teacher's College Marangu, Tanzania, 8-12 February 2006. It was organised by a handful individuals and friends from MAAA and Watu Wa Watu.
We were 76 attendees in all - youth leaders, artists, teachers, counsellors, PLWHA and religious leaders from different countries (East Africa, Europe), groups and organisations - all with different socio-cultural and religious backgrounds.
A special thanks from all involved to the principal of Marangu Teachers´ College, government leaders of Marangu District and District Aids Coordinators who were a great support throughout the conference! Most of the attendees were sponsored, partly or totally, by various groups and organisations. In this respect, big thanks from MAAA and Watu Wa Watu to the parish in Harlingerode, Germany, and our friends from ActAlive and the Peace Tile Project to help MAAA to raise more funds and thus enable many individuals to participate in the event.
And thanks to all participants who came a long way from Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Burundi and Germany thereby making the highway conference possible!
